Sunday Photo Fun June 24 07

The Santa Fe Northern, pressed into freight service in the 1950s as passenger traffic declines, rolls along unawares of danger lurking ahead, slithering in its path.

nearby, a massive serpent lurks, waiting to gobble up the Fastmail

But BB the beagle arrives just in time to save the Fastmail. The snake slithers away, leaving just its skin

BB the beagle wrestles the skin, stomping and chewing on it, a definite victory over the slithering menace.

The coal yard. Trucks are from Ertl with Berkshire Valley dump bodies added. The coal conveyors are from Model Tech and were just addded to the scene this week. I used the HO versions that seemed to fit better with the size of the trucks. The hopper is an Atlas fishbelly and the engine a Lionel 0-8-0.

Spankybird, Those city backdrops look interesting. Still looking to fill in spots on my city area. Do you have a source for them ?  If they are simply cutouts the look great.

Our latest acquisition..... AC4400

(Needed a pair of Diesels to accomodate some of the modern day freight cars. )

As the AC4400 runs through the AGHR club layout, with the modern cars, it steps back into time.

As the consist left the yard,  I noticed it picked up a helper.

The consist head toward the destination............... yesterday

After traveling for a significant time, arrival in Rosyvale (not Rosyville).    Aw,  is that Ms Etta, preparing to open the store? (Rumor has it that a local politician makes weekly moonshine deliveries.)

Passing through the country side, our consist impressed shop shoppers at the Eagleton Amusement Park and Galleria.

Unfortunately, that was the last we have seen of the AC4400's and its consist, apparently they are lost in time, waiting for a layout to be built.

Dave, they are like a photo on 1/4" thick board. I will check on them this week and see if there is anythink on the back of them.

Another week of no progress thanks to a rash of that nasty work stuff.

Here are two new additions I received this week:

A much nicer example of the post war large hopper:

and the elusive green version of the post war NYC gondola:

Fast piggy back and double stack train passing local freight at tunnel.

I've been passed!!!!

Man!!!!  Slow that fast train down.  I'm being passed again! [BTW: Haze over engines is smoke]

As it goes by.

Fast piggy back and double stack.

Slow frieght.

Thought I'd throw up a picture illustrating scale and gauge.

2 steam: O gauge, O scale, quarter inch scale, 1:48, standard gauge 4'8.5"

boxcar: gauge 1, 7/8 inch scale, 1:13.7, 2'gauge

tipper and mine car: O gauge, 7/8 inch scale, 1:13.7, 18"gauge

Notice that the boxcar the mine cars are the same scale but different gauges

Notice too that the mine car and the steam locos are the same gauges but different scales

have a nice day

They sure do.  Makes a circle in other room.  Also a reversing track and a storage track [with off/on switch].   Switches to move from outer main line ot inner and then back again.  Adding a siding in that room too.  Going to take track up in sections and put sound board under it [cover the whole layout 1 inch thick].  Then I will do the scenery.  Been waiting on the $$$$$ to do sound board.  Got them now [kids gave me Lowes gift cards for birthday and Father's Day].

That is always fun when you fire up the garden railroad and there is a snake. Happened to me once. I was running on a friend's rr in the country when low and behold, the empty intermodal car immediately behind the last loco picked up a passenger by the time the train left the tunnel. There was a bably copperhead on my train!
