Thanks for everyone's feedback.

Here is a pic of one of the cars.

It was in fact the window clips that held it together.  I was a little nervous pulling off the roofs/rooves?.

Basically, I had to resolder 2 wires that had run up inside the said cars.  They all work fine now, pain the butt soldering without melting the car....fun stuff.

Here is a 45 sec. video with much better clarity.  Love Fundemensions engines....this TPW runs like a champ.

My modern Madison cars (19011, 19015-18, 19075-77) all have double pickups and are relamped by removing clips from the bottom, just as in Grayson's posting.  Are you sure yours are Madison cars, or could they be some other kind of heavyweights?  For example, the roofs of the 9500-type cars are held on by the translucent window inserts, which are fastened to the roof and fit into the windows from the inside.  You get the roof off by pressing in (very slightly and carefully) on the inserts while pulling up on the roof.

Can't say how to open the cars but have you tried looking for screw holes on the bottom of the car?  May need a slender but long phillips screwdriver if similar to MTH or K-Line passenger cars. On locomotives and some cabooses there are screws sometimes in the front and rear of the diesel loco or caboose that hold the shell on the frame.

The bronze or copper connecter should be above the axle so that it don't get caught on the track.  While you have the car open check the center pick wire to the light socket as this may have worked it's way loose.

While you are at it try cleaning the wheels on the truck assemblies, a lot of dirt attaches itself to the wheels especially if you have a smoking locomotive.

Here is a horrible snippet of the set (It's super short...I mean super)....but if you watch it a couple times, closely, you can see the 3 cars not lit.

The baggage car is lit....I assumed it wouldn't be.  Looks like someone did some tinkering.

Real quick question-SUCCESS...and now a better layout video-

Recently purchased the Lionel 1994-1995 NYC Madison cars (O Gauge) not the big Standard O 4 pack, 2 from the 94 service station set and the 95 SS 4 pack.

3 of the cars lights are out, w/o forcing my hand, does the roof snap off?  Do the ends come out?

Curiously, one of the cars has 2 rollers.....can't find any ops stuff on the internet.  One of the 3 non-lit cars, did "come to life" but when inspecting the bottom of that one, it did not come on again.  I see a bronze connector on the trucks...does that have to be above or below the truck axle?

Hopefully, it's just a bulb replacement, but if not, any troubleshooting would be helpful.....

 Any help would be appreciated.
