Eric,

     What scale/gauge are you getting into?  That will help get some responses for links.  A few ideas: The main page of this forum (CTT) has links to several good sources, including it's own.  Also, if you click on Model Railroader, they have some great articles on building scenery, etc.  If you keep returning here, a lot if useful information is posted.  Alos, at the top of the list, you will see a thread of "newbie" information, you can click on that as it has links to threads of information that has already been discussed.
