HELP! with trainmaster command
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, June 14, 2007 7:34 PM

I just picked up a lionel trainmaster remote and command base set. in the instructions it says to plug the small power supply into the command base. my command base does not have that plug.

in the book it shows a command base that has the power plug, a din plug that says computer and the stud to wire to the track.   it also shows a base like the one I have with 2 studs "A" & "U" and a 3 pin verticle plug that is not labeled.

how does this base get powered? what is the 3 pin verticle plug. the book says nothing about it.

That sounds like a power master not a command base.

Mine had a corded plug, with a fuse & those two wires connected to my kw transformer.
The a & u terminals connect to the track
I now use a tpc instead on a PM.

That is definitely a powermaster unit not the command base.  The command base only has a single stud to connect a wire to the outside rails of the track.  The three pin vertical plug is the connection for either a powerhouse or an adapter cable to connect to anothe transformer.  Sounds like whoever packed the units up put the wrong one in the command base box.

Well they do look alike, except the powermaster is gray, not black like the command base. Thats what happens when you produce in China, and not the USA.

I see now it is a power master.  I went onto the lionel site and see that this is for running non tmcc engines. will it also run my tmcc engine? It does not have the plug to connect to my transformer, can anyone tell me which of the 3 pins on the powermaster connect to my transformer? thanks for any help, I cant wait to access my train sounds.

Need, no.  Can use, yes.  It will allow you to remotely set track voltage to something other than 18 volts.  The PowerMaster actually predates everything but the CAB-1.  If you note the color of the plastic shells, both the CAB-1, original PH 135's and the PowerMaster were grey.  The later components were switched over to black.  I don't know what china has to do with this.
