I was the one who pointed it out. I just wanted to know if it was made out of "OO" guage tooling. Never found out though. Yeah, pretty pricey. Saw one in the store for $55.

Wow!! [wow] I use "E-Bay" and am always amazed at the 'winning bids' on some items.  I guess that a lot goes to the way the item is presented.  (The seller did well!)

About 90% of the way a person presents something is how it will sell.  On ebay you could sell horse manure if you presented it properly.

PT BARNUM WAS RIGHT!!!!!!

I'm going to go to Lowes and pick up a half a dozen of those lamps and sell them on Ebay. If there are anymore suckers out there I'm going to ditch my 401K and go into the resale business.

The engine on the lamp is smaller than O-gauge.

Frankie gave me on for Christmas.  Sits here in the office and lights the room.  Put a screw in floresent bulb in.  Hit the switch [button] and she fires up and chuffs away with bell ringing for about 30 seconds.

I just picked one up at Lowe's for $30--"closeout" sale.

Both the gauge and the scale are American OO, as nearly as I can tell.  That is 1/76 scale running on 3/4-inch track.  (British OO runs on 16.5-millimeter HO-gauge track.)  The cab number is 5340, the number used for the 1990 O-scale "1-700E".  Lionel used 5344 for the O-scale 700E and 5342 for the OO-scale 001 through 004.

Later:  I just finished kitbashing my new lamp.  I don't really need a lamp; and I thought that the lamp part was over the top in more than one way; so I removed it.

I was also underwhelmed by the locomotive's crazy rocking motion.  I thought it was just a flimsy mounting until I looked inside--it's deliberate!  The mounting posts are hinged under the track.  The front one is pulled to one side by a spring.  The middle driver on the back is made with an uneven tire, which rubs against a plastic tab beside the rail to shake the locomotive back and forth.  Removing the spring and the tab calmed the Hudson down.

But the whole locomotive is mounted so high that it hovers noticeably above the rails, to make room for it to rock, I think.  So I drilled new pivot holes in the mounting posts to lower the wheels reasonably near to the track.

Now, what to do about that strange whistle...
