No wonder lionel's one can pull so many cars, the real ac-12 had a max horsepower rating of 6000, and could deliver 124,300 pounds of traction effort.

WOW!  As Mike said, I think the video answers the question.  It is a nice looking engine and the video should be on Lionel's web site as a promotion.  If I had modelled any western railroads, I may have gone for this.  I would like a equally powerful and detailed engine in NYC or Lackawanna Lionmaster for my pike.

I got mine for under $700 and ots great just like the video.  Smokes well, pulls great and sounds outstanding.

I think that answers the power question, the price vs. value is an issue totally up to the individual.

This is a very nice loco. I was lucky enough to run one for the weekend at the Lionel Collectors Club (UK) show at Ilkley (many thanks to Ken who's loco it was). Its a Lionmaster so it will go around tight curves. It coped fine with Fastrack 036 but looked better on 072. It weighs a ton and slow speed running is great. It should be happy pulling long trains. Smoke unit is not great but other than that I could not fault it.

Does anybody have or know if the new Lionel AC-12 cab forward is powerful and worth the money?
