New Atlas O Trainman Structures
Posted by Dr. John on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 12:44 PM

I noticed that Atlas is producing some O scale buildings in their Trainman line:

http://www.atlastrainman.com/Structures/tmostructures.htm

These appear to be re-releases of buildings formerly produced by other companies. The engine house looks like an IHC model while the other offerings appear to be from the Bachmann/Plasticville line.

I wonder if Atlas bought the old tooling and will be the sole manufacturer of these buildings now?

Yes indeed, Dennis. As far as I know, you are not on "train-related-structures-restriction."

Hey Doc, I think the pedestrian bridge is old Bachman tooling.  I didn't recognize the other structures (not saying they aren't old tooling).  The station, switchtower and 2-story house all would be an excellent start to a super-detailing project.

Thanks for the post.

If that's the old IHC kit, they are selling it for a lot more than IHC did! Still, I like all those kits they are offering. The rural station would look great on the Jumijo!

It is not clear if they are KITS or Fully Assembled buildings.

As someone mentioned on another forum, it would take a really, really big box for that engine house if it were fully assembled.

The heading in the link reads "Structure Kits". Either it was missed or Atlas added it to their banner. I understand the engine house originated as an AHM kit (later IHC). A water tower and freight house should be on the horizon. They look like economical kits of US style architecture that will make a great base for detail and paint.

Since they are kits, why not mention the ease or difficulty in construction?

Did you mean you want Atlas to tell you how easy or difficult they are to build ?  Or folks that have built them already ? These are probably not even in the hands of the buyers yet. I have built the old kits before some by Backman like the steps that go over the tracks & that was easy. There's not that many parts to any of these kits & the engine house is similar to an old Lionel structure like that . The main thing in assembling these kits is to find what glue works best. It's been my experience with that type of plastic to use a good 2 part Epoxy. Use a toothpick or something so as not to get too much glue on & make a mess. Maybe they will reccomend a glue, but older kits didn't.

Thanks, John

They will be on the easy side. One skill level higher than Plasticville.
