I am very new to model railroading and wanted to know a few things that I dont understand.  Can all brands of Ho scale engines run on the same track?  What is the best brand of steam and diesel engine? What track type is the best for Ho?

welcome.......

first , youll find this is mostly o scale here. if you go over to  model rail roading forums, they can answer anything you got need for. but myself am in o and ho right now but am new to this myself.

i have a bunch of differnt engines and they all run on the same track, i use atlas track. good stuff i think..

as far as best brands thats really up to you, you'll get lots of differant opinons but it really comes down to what you like...i think.....well hope you find what your looking for over there..

and welcome to this new way of life. I have learned that this is more then a hobby. Good day to you!

Yes, most brands can run on the same track. I would recommend athearn for steam and atlas for diesel but it doesnt really matter, there both good. I would say atlas code 83 track for a realistic prototypical layout, and Bachmans E-Z track for ease of setup.

My My 2 cents [2c]

Enjoy the Hobby!
