My first attempt at scenary

well here is my first attempt. I used chicken wire with news paper over that and this plaster roll stuff....i seen a few ppl post about its ease of use and so i thought id try it first....it was easy to work with but not sure about the results...i still have to paint it yet..my gf did most of the work...but i helped....this is for her ho layout actually.. but here it is.....any critizicism is welcome....i can take it

there will be a curved tunnel threw this and a waterfall in front...hopefully

I think you have the makings of real mountain there.  Of course it WILL fit on the layout, right?  Maybe you need some bobsleds on it?

zeke, I think you did a good job on that mountain area, don't forget once you scenic it with trees and vegetation it will start to come to life.

You seem not to have made the tunnel openings. It'll be a job to cut through that wire and plaster afterwards. Otherwise it looks nice.

Looking good on your efforts there Zeke.  One thing you may want to do for future mountains, when mixing plaster, or when wetting the rolls of Plaster Cloth, add a little earth tone color to the mix so that if in the future, the plaster should chip, you would not have the striking white back ground.  As mentioned, it is easier to put your tunnel portals in place, build up the wire around them and then do the plaster, but hey, it is your mountain.  Also, when working on the next phase of adding color and grass, paint the mountain with earth tone paint and sprinkle the fake grass on while the paint is still wet, this will make the grass stick.

Having built some big mountains in the past, I like the free lance look your mountain has.  Dennis's hint about the tint for the plaster is a neat idea.  Can you easily pick the mountain up to move it without bending and cracking the plaster covering?  Good luck on painting and doing the grass and other vegetation.

ports---kinda forgot about them, at the time it was gonna be a rough draft but i like it...

mixing the earth tones with the water---good idea i will try that on my bigger mountains...

 my mountain moves very easily and doesnt bend..but i am being very careful with it anyways...

 

i plan on creating a beautiful mtn with animals and nice scenary...theres evean gonna be a waterfall

Zeke, a Mountain is a good place to use forced perspective about middile ways up the mountain you can use animals from the next scale down from the trains

Zeke, you can salvage what you have if you want to build it up from the bottom.  Just put some portals down over some track to make sure they are in correct location.  Then, build up around the portals to the top level and make it so that the already built mountain will fit on top.  Good luck with it, it will continue to be a work in progress as a layout is never really done.

Zeke, Looking good.  I have yet to build a mountain on my O gauge layout.  Last one I did was in HO about 50 years ago.  The guys have given you a lot of good tips.

I think it looks great, especially for your first time. My first attempt turned out ok but looked more like a sadly shaped Matterhorn....

 

We are now working on the Devil's Tower using the cardboard, plaster cloth and finishing plaster and will be using some paint to mix in with the plaster in the earth tones. I've never tried it before so we'll see how it turns out. Good luck with the scenery, if nothing else, it's fun to do!

nextmtn i will be mixing the paint in with the plaster...cant wait ti see what you get accomplished and yes its fun...
