Saving the buried tresure
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, May 31, 2007 12:20 PM

Got the ebay bug recently and have been buying some trains that have been painted aftermarket. My current project is some maddison cars. Granted they have wood frames and have AMT diecast trucks. They were painted for the new haven. I liked the look but do not have a new haven engines.  decided to repaint them green with pullman decals, that way I can run with any engine.

Upon removing paint, I got down to the origonal Lionel Lines paint. Was tempted to save the origonal paint but it was a lost cause. I was wondering if anyone had luck saving origonal paint on a previously painted piece. I would like tips. I usually use pine-sol to strip paint. I nearly had success with a 50 tie-jector but the pinesol dried out the un-painted plastic. It is now in VIRGINIAN livery.

Lots of repainted stuff out there. Would be nice to save some of the "buried treasure" underneath.
