I used Hob-E-Tac,I think, and have found that it can be removed just by pulling it off with very little loss of roadbed.

My 2 cents [2c] My advice:  Glue it down permanently and buy some more after you move.  I had an HO layout on which I tried: 1st: not fastening it down (thinking, like you, that I would want to move it) and then 2nd: tacking it down with Atlas track nails into the hardshell and styrofoam risers.  Guess what? the track moved all over the place and it was a constant nightmare of dead track segments and derailments.  I spent more time and money trying to fix these problems than I would have spent simply throwing the old roadbed away and using new stuff to build the new layout.

I guess, if you were careful and glued it down selectively, you might be able to salvage some larger pieces from the straight sections, but personally, I think you'll find unsecured roadbed to be more trouble than it's worth, unless O scale is significantly different.

Maybe something like rubber cement which can be peeled off?  Has anyone tried that?

I used double sided carpet tape for the Woodland Scenics foam, on the curves I cut the foam and tape into segments to eliminate lifting/buckling issues that occurred on an earlier instalation. The tubular track is adhered with hotmelt glue so there is nothing to transfer noise to the subroadbed, plywood. Absolutely whisper quiet.

Save yourself some money!

Go buy some Elmer's Carpenter's glue.

I used the Woodland Scenics foam on my shelf layout, and tried using a couple things. Elmer's Carpenter's glue worked the best. Got a big bottle for like $3.00. Easy to work with, tacked up fairly quickly.

For making curves, split the foam in half. Do one curve first; then do the other curve. I used some straight pins to hold the foam..but with the carpenter's glue, it tacked up fairly quickly and didn't really need them. You can also cut v slots out of the inside of the curve to help make the curve. I gave up on that at the end...

How do you attach foam roadbed?

I bought my first roll of woodland scenics O gauge roadbed. Instructions on the box are for glue-ing it down. At this point I really don't want to glue it down as I could be moving in a year or two. So I want to be able to use it down the road if/when I move/change the layout I'm building right now. This roadbed is going under the 027 track.

Also I got two rolls of 3.5" wide sill seal foam. This roadbed is going under Fastrack. One blue one ? brand from Lowes,, other white roll ? brand from Menards. I am trying the white foam first as its color will blend better with the fastrack I'm putting it under. Any suggestions on fastening it down? I did buy that issue  of OGR with the article on the blue roll of film but am not sure where I placed that magazine.
