Marx 666 Locomotive motor
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 11:08 AM
My Marx 666 Locomotive motor has a worn out bushing. I need some help with which direction to go. Do I try to locate someone who has an old Marx locomotive with a non-running engine in hopes of salvaging the armature and/or bushing or is there any hope of finding a replacement bushing to install? The motor will run, but because the bushing is so worn, the armature shaft keeps slipping upward so that the gear on the end of the shaft will not stay meshed with the wheel gears. Therefore, the locomotive wheels will just lock up. Everything else on the 666 is in good shape, so I hate to abandon it and buy another locomotive.

I also had bushing problem with my 666. I have seen a lot of 666s at train show that are reasonably priced , but I went the repair route and replaced bushings. I did this because I received my 666 in 57 or 58 for christmas. I have also replaced the brushes with Lionel brushes and they work perfect.

Sorry I hit the wrong key without adding a reply. Thanks for the info, but where should I start to locate bushings for this motor? I don't think any of my local train stores will have them. I haven't check all of them yet, but there's a good repair guy at my local Hobbytown USA store who told me he doubted I would find new bushings anywhere. His suggestion was to try to find someone on the internet who would sell me a non-working locomotive or just its motor from which I may be able to salvage a good bushing. That seems to be a crap-shoot.

Hi , if you have no luck , let me know, I can probably machine you out some replacement bushings as I have done this on other Loco's. I too have a 666 that I received for Xmas in 57 or 58. Let me know the price would be reasonable.
