Zeke, it depends on what kind of car/engine it is.  If he needs a V8 head gasket, I wouldn't. 4 cyl maybe...

That is not a good deal.  I have this very set, sans the track, and would be willing to unload it for $100.00+ shipping.  Since the packaging makes it a large package and thus shipping is higher I would take it out of the original packaging and ship the items in a smaller box.

thats what i was thinking also cuz i was watching one a cpl weeks ago and it got sniped on me at 80 shipped nib...

 

is this a basic set? seems pretty cheap..cost  i mean...

 

and no its a 454 out of a older chevy pick up...which also needs a ring job and a cluth..he wanted it all for the train i told him id get back to him..

It is a pre-FasTrack starter set.

I wouldn't do it.  Too much work especially if the eninge is still in the vehicle.  Have him PAY you $150 and throw in the set...

That set is still in production, mostly unchanged save for the addition of Fastrack and the CW-80 transformer.

It sells for around $250 brand new and with a warranty. Considering that, I would say that $225 is too much for an 8 year old set that may or man not be in good shape.

well thanks i am definatly gonna have a chat with the man...i like to barter when i can cuz frankly government living isnt to great..

i am gonna look into some kind of ase certification school...i have worked on cars since i was old enough to hold a wrench... i love working on things...love to make things that dont run...run again..

 

just like my 2025...which i am breathing new life into...is that awesome a train thats 50 yrs old coming alive again after a long , long rest.  got to love that..

Zeke, I believe you can find that set new for about the same amount of money in a retail store.  I don't think it is any great "Deal".  I would not pay that much for it.  Perhaps if you offered $150, but I would not go any higher than that for a opened box set.

 I bought a brand new Union Pacific Fast Freight set for $239.00 from Hobby Station. It comes with a much nicer Locomotive and many more extras than the NY flyer set.  Type in the set you like in your internet browser and all of the stores with that product will appear and then search out the best price. That is what I did and found my set about $85.00 cheaper than the average price of said set. Good luck hunting for your new set.

thanks guys...i cant afford to spend that much on a train set..alt least not with out saving a month or so...

 

i seen the set and emailed the guy and he needed some work done..so i thought id swap work for train..now i know what its worth i do believe i will ask him  see if we can work something out..its not that important for me to get that set..i have something coming anyways..i just thought i might be able to work something out..who knows i might still.. who knows he may have more to add...waiting for a call from the guy!

 

this guy really needs his truck up and running for work hes been riding a bike 15 miles to work for a month so i might be able to just help him anyways...gives me something to do..i always think one kind act leads towards another...besides i have a air conditioned garage with a lift to work in.....

NO! I would not pay even $50 for that set, NIB. It is not well made. The cars are completley plastic and quite frankly has the feeling of cheap. $225 is a good chunk on change and f you hunt, can find some good quality trains.
