8141 tender question

In general the tender would be the same color as the locomotive.

Exceptions to every rule, Philly! Most, if not all of the 3 digit 027 locos were the Scout type steamers. Also, most Lionels were capable of running on 027 track.The type of track put in the set box also classified a loco as 0 or 027. The couple type only impacted the first number of the car's part number.

Traindaddy, the 8141 tender is indeed gray and will match the engine.  The 8203 PRR came with two different 8203 tenders, one a coal tender and the other oil.  Both are black with red Pennsylvania.

Lionel also marketed the 8042 PRR engine, black, with a type 8141 black tender with white Pennsylvania.  The coal load is perforated for the SOS speaker but this engine did not come with SOS.  I believe this engine came in a Department Store set, sometimes with a different roadname tender, but it is the only issuance of an 8141 type tender, black, with white Pennsylvania.

The 8141 could be plastic as the year it was made according to Greenberg's price guide is 1971 & 72.

Jaabat, the numbers for post war Lionel engines don't match up according to how many numbers are on the locomotive as to O gauge or 027.  I have a post war 224 steam loco for O gauge and a 235 steam loco for 027.  You had mentioned that four digit numbers were 027 and three digit numbers were O gauge on another post recently, that may be true about 66% of the time but not always the case, Lionel had a pattern to their numbering and it had more to do with electric coil couplers verses regular couplers than something O gauge or 027, if I remember correctly.

 Hello Traindaddy!   The only other Engine/Tender combo Lionel made was an 8203 in Black with a Tender & a Red Stripe on both sides of the Engine & red Pennsylvania Lettering on the Tender. They were made in 1972 & are somewhat hard to find. Take Care.

The tender is gray as well. If not mistaken, this is a plastic bodied locomotive?

Hi!. I'm trying to match a tender to my Pennsylvania 2-4-2 (red stripe) 8141 Gray engine.

The Lionel web site shows an 8141-T-1 tender. Would you know if the color of the tender is gray or black?   Also, would you know of another model tender that would compliment this engine?  As always, many thanks.
