My friend John Meise took this photo of the American Freedom Train somewhere along the NE corridor circa 1975/1976. Over on the other track, it's a Penn Central triple headed freight with one GG1 and two E44's. This electric trio could probably pull just about anything. Each of these locomotives (or at least, an example of each) are just museum displays now...

Jaspers - Thanks for posting that vintage pic. My mom pulled me out of school one September day (I was 10) to go see the Freedom Train in Middle River, MD.

You folks are in for a treat with Ray's layout photos.

I had an impossible area that I have been looking at forever and finally came up with an idea
designed a structure with my engineering software
and it came out ok
and Frank actually gave me the idea of using it as an Indian Motorcycle building after seeing his neat structure. Thanks again Frank!

Ray's layout was probably the one that really influenced me to re-think what I was doing and really try to build a permanent sceniced layout. Prior to that, I was just playing around on a couple of pieces of plywood, as shown below:
and Ray has helped me out with photos I have asked him for, etc. along the way - he's a good fellow.

If there was an award for most improved layout of the year it would have to go to you.
So much progress in so little time.
Really look forward to your posts

That small guard shack is a neat idea. Looks good.
Also, love that tubular track.
Nice shots guys. What type of cameras are you all using?
Here's an old pic...but since we will soon be tubing the Salt River here in town, I thought I'd post it again.
Thaks for your comments - here are a few I shot today. Note the use of the world's most venerable track system - tubular.
Excellent, Frank.
AND.............It doesn't look " goofy ".
