Greenburgs Philadelphia shows
Posted by trainguy2 on Monday, April 23, 2007 7:33 PM
What happened?? Does anyone know??? Phila. was always a huge market for the greenburg shows, from the convention center downtown when they first started years ago right up until they closed Ft. Washington Expo center. They had one show in the new Reading convention center last summer and one in the fall and now nothing. Does anyone have any info ???   I'm originally from Philly , but moved to Hamburg Pa. last june. If anyone hears of any local shows give me a shout .

Not Greenburgs but there are two  big Allentown shows each year.
Also read somewhere that the Fort Washington shows would be back, at a different building though.

Our modular group was sad that Ft. Washington Expo Center was closed, since it was only a half-hour drive. Reading is a very nice, very large building...but it wasn't drawing the Phila. area crowds. Now, most all of the shows we do involve staying-over for 2 nights. We are hoping they will come back to the Phila. area, but so far, even the "rumor mill" has no info. Joe

Hamburg PA usually has two or more model train shows a year at the Hamburg Field House, anyway not far from the main road right off route 61 in Hamburg.  Have been there before and really nice train show.  Used to live in Reading PA, Muhlenberg Township.

Since moving to Hamburg have you been over to Lancaster County to the Pennsylvania Train Museum and Strasburg Railroad and Choo Choo Barn and Red Caboose Motel nearby?

Like you here in Florida it seems that Greenberg shows just don't come here anymore, maybe Ogaugeoverload(Bob Keller) can give us some details as to what is going on with Greenberg's Train shows.  Used to have a Greenberg's show at Ft. Lauderdale FL but stopped a few years ago.

Thanks for the reply Joe. I know the Reading shows were a bit far to draw the Philyy crowds, but it sure beats taking 2 days, like you said and going to Balt. or Pittsburgh.

Thanks for the shout back Lee. I've covered all the places that you mentioned, plus a few more. Took the Reading & Northern excursion from Port Clinton to Jim Thorp Last fall, Great trip !! Just booked excursion from Scranton to East stroudsburg in May, BEHIND STEAM !!!!   And I know what your saying about FL. been there a few times myself. You have to go miles just to find a good train shop down there. Vince

Couldn't tell you anything about the current state of Greenburg shows, Kalmbach sold the show business four or five years back.

I believe that the Greenburg Show name is dead, though Great Train Expo is the only national network of shows still remaining (other than the World's Greatest Hobby Shows, which are more limited in scope).

Great Train Expo's site http://gte.ciadvt.com/

At least here in Nothern Virginia they are continuing the old Greenburg Show show under their name at the same place, Capitol Expo Center.

Enjoy

There is a train show in Gilbertsville at the fire hall. 4 times a year I think but I don't have any dates.
