Need a York local or close to offer traffic advice

Maybe route 30 is better in eastern PA but between Altoona and Harrisburg it is very hilly and curves a lot!

Is route 222 near Adamstown completed yet?  Used to be four lanes between Adamstown and Lancaster then narrow down to two, or three lanes for passing, from Adamstown to Reading. Over five years ago route 222 got a major change to it north of Reading, took over old route 1035 a.k.a. the road to no-where, the old 222 is now business 222.

Hmmmm... the portion of 30 between Gettysburg and York isn't very hilly - it traverses the Lancaster plains...

I have taken route 30 in Pennsylvania and recommend that you check your brakes in your car or whatever vehicle you will be using as it is super hilly and curves a lot!!  My two cents to add is take the PA Turnpike or other routes to avoid route 30, would rather pay the tolls than fix the brakes or car later.   I know of route 30 as I used to live in Reading PA.

That is the way I will be coming - you will not hit any construction that I am aware of.

I take MD 97N to PA194 to US 30.

If you don't want to take US30 the whole way, you could take 116 into Hanover then take 194 to US30, or you could take 116 all the way to US30...

I've taken a number of different routes to get to York/Lancaster and have not hit construction anywhere along 30 West of York...

What about someone coming from the west?  In particular Rte. 15 near Gettysburg?

From Tom on OGR who is a local in York...

My recommendation for anyone coming south on I-83 is to get off at Exit 24 ( Emigsville ) and take Rt. 238 west all the way to Rt. 74 Carlisle Rd. Take a left on Carlisle Rd and this will take you all the way to the fairgrounds. This way you can avoid all the Rt. 30 hassle.

I will be staying in Harrisburg to the North. I 've heard about this RT 30 being bad. don't know the area well. Can anyone who know the area give me some solid directions to avoid the mess?
