I agree with Buckeye (am I going crazy?), anyway, I don't think a reason surfaced, but they do still advertise in OGR.  they have big spreads on Legacy, and other new issues.  I suspect that most, but not all, of the CTT readers lean more to the Lionel side and that OGR readers lean more to MTH.  So, it could be trying to gain market from the "other guys".  This is not based on a scientific study, just observations.

Based on subscriber rates, I'd bet an ad in OGR is a bunch cheaper to buy for a company that has to report its expenditures to a bankruptcy court!

I think Jon makes an important point, but there may still be some lingering resentment over CTT's editorial taking sides in the MTH lawsuit, de facto, by calling on the TCA to discipline Lionel employees involved in the alleged "theft."  I know if that were me being wrongly accused,  based upon a civil liability suit (since that time, completely reversed and remanded), I might expect an apology before considering sending any more business their way.

That having been said, I think as soon as Lionel is out of bankruptcy, their ads will likely begin appearing. Right now, advertising to the mostly already converted is low on the list of things they can afford.  You'll notice MTH's ads aren't exactly as big and prominent as they once were either.  I suspect that tells us financial issues play a role in Lionel's and MTH's reduced presence in CTT.

When is the bankrupcy supposed to be resolved?  I think that will answer a lot of questions.  I do hope that the lawsuit is put to rest soon and that these guys can focus on trains again.

I couldn't agree more with you, Dennis. I shutter as soon as someone has to mention that or bring it up. We should all learn to wait patiently for it to get overwith, IMO.

Thanks, John

Who cares whether they buy ad space or not. My 2 cents [2c]

Personally I'd be happier if it were spent in more productive areas. Grumpy [|(]

I think it's probably a combination of issues already stated in the forum: why spend money preaching to the choir in CTT; better to advertise to those who don't now buy Lionel.

I just picked up the latest issue of OGR, and I am amazed how heavily "MTH" they are vs. Lionel in their content and advertising. It's almost as though Lionel doesn't exist there!

You just noticed?? Every time I break down and buy a copy I swear it will be the last one!

I aree. I also think both magazines are trying to "punish" Lionel for this lack of advertising with product reviews and layouts focused on MTH. Even a fairly recent comparison of TMCC vs DCS dealt with Lionel "Gremlins", as opposed to MTH "Problems" (to be honest, the DCS problems looked more like "gremlins" to me). Joe

I'd suggest that you guys not worry about whether or not Lionel advertises in CTT, and move on to more important subjects like what you're going to buy at York.

AH, but I'm not going to York.Wink [;)]  Where Lionel advertises is Lionel's business.  If they do not advertise in CTT, so what.  I still prefer CTT.
