rain so indoors making toy train flatcar loads; if you see the big squeeze clamp on the right side of last photo, it popped off the tank car and hit me in the jaw, which is sore.
no warning came with the clamp so I think I'll just go ahead and sue them

GG1 Crashes

It started out as a regular day on the Hendersonville subdivision, but little thought it would end like this. At 2 Pm a GG1 locomotive pulling the crack passenger train the Spirit of St Louis, crashed into the rear of the 2:30 freight which was idle at Henderson Staci on, no injury's have been reported but the damage is wide spread, and the Pennsy Mail Line is blocked. Trains are expected to be running again this afternoon.

Inside the roundhouse, this is the best pic I have - and it doesn't do it justice - the architecture is very impressive, and they have a wooden turntable inside too..GP-40 in B&O Freight: Ma & Pa Inspection Car - don't want to ride this down cobblestone streets!Outside the roundhouse is a nice sized Garden RR, here a CSX freight train heads into a tunnel, with a roundhouse and turntable in the background:Here a Western Maryland freight train crosses a truss bridge:Heading over to the Passenger Car repair shop, you pass some pretty impressive livery, here a C&O MOW Ballast Tamper waits for its call to duty:Across from there is a nicely restored C&O Passenger car, inside is the museum's HO scale layout:Across the platform from the passenger car is a Perre Marquette Switcher:Behind the Switcher is a Reefer, inside is a movie theater - they had a video of a Lionel Layout playing:Behind that is a B&O Woodsided Caboose, Susan took a rest inside - no pics of that :Inside the Repair Shop...The President Washington F-19 Pacific 5300:C&O 491 Streamlined Hudson:C&O 1604 Allegheny:Susan at the controls of the 1604 - she looks like she is up to no good!Brent preparing to roll 'em out, heading West toward Cumberland, Pittsburgh, and Ohio!On the trainride, you got to see some pretty beat up old engines and rolling stock... this GG-1 brought tears to my eyes... this is such a sad state for such a grand engine:We had a great time and after seeing the 491 I was glad I picked up my 490! The 1604 is one heck of an engine. The drive wheels are over 5ft tall and the engine seems to be a mile long - really want one on my layout after seeing it in person. The President Washington is a massive engine as well, there is also a B&O Mikado behind the Washington - these two sit next to the 1604 and the 1604 is as long and the Washington + Tender and the Mikado and 1/2 its tender's length! Just amazing. The entire experience was really neat, the museum has a lot of displays that tell the story of American Railroading, and the volunteers were very informative. You can tell they are very proud to have the 1604 amoungst their collection.

finally got to building the rises and laying the track. i know there is a lot of track on a small space, but i have decided the layout will have more of a "toy" feel to it. still need to decide about the center. some spurs, coal/lumber yard matbe.

Brent, The CNJ #1000 is supposed to be at the B&O Musuem, did you see it? It is the first Production Diesel/Electric owned by a US railroad. A small 300 hp box cab locomotive. I hope they don't have it sitting outside like the GG1 rusting away.
BTW, I got an email from the Harrisburg Chapter of NRHS saying that they are hunting a new home/owner for the GG1 (4859) now sitting at the Harrisburg Passenger Station as Amtrak wants to make use of the track it is sitting on.
Who says Lionel diesels don't smoke [and I am not holding down the smoke button]. Scale SD80's lashed with Dash 8 in middle. [BTW: don't tell Jim A that the mountains turned green with sploches of brown]

Laz, I like the strip mining scene...and the way you have it laid out when coal gets sprinkled all over the place it'll just look normal since there's coal everywhere already! Brilliant. Coal operations and trains are like peas and carrots
Chief nice mountains...any chance you'll stick some trees into/onto them? I have a feeling my train layout will look like yours once I get around to setting it up. Who needs scenery when you've got TRAINS?

John,There were so many engines to see I'm not sure which ones we saw! LOL! There is a whole section out by the parking lot that we didn't get to go through... The few I mentioned were the high lights (restored or nearing restoration). I would like to get back there again to really take some pics (would be a great place to test out your new camera as there are lots of inside and outside shots with different lighting levels). I've had my EOS for 2 years and I'm still learning how to use it - I think I need to read the user manual!Roland,I highly recommend the museum! For train enthusiasts it is really a treat and my wife (who steadfastly declares she is not into trains had a great time too).

Kurt, it doesn't auto-reverse like the #60. It goes forward - neutral - reverse. You have to power down to go into the next sequence.
