O-31 layout question...

FiL wants a small layout put up in his basement - seems he's caught the bug too - he has a load of postwar O-31 track and some switches... are the old style switches anti-derailing (auto throw) if not can they be made to be?

I'm on my way to the basement to start counting track (inspect the sections for rust) and take photos of the engines and rolling stock...

O-22's have non derail feature and constant voltage option.

You can breathe freely... I think he has the ATSF Switcher, a 2065?, and a pre-war set...

It may be worth that to someone, that someone just ain't me.

I am not really interested in teh set, but the A-B diesels alone are on my want list. If it's a nickel, I think I'll be looking at $1200.00 for the level of condition I want - which is runner, as opposed to shelf queen.

Got some pics for tomorrow's photo fun!

The 675 (thought it was a 2065) is really rough - side markers are gone, lots of scratches and the tender has lots of spotting... the 622 has lots of spotting as well, but is still a nice switcher.

The prewar 262E is in nice shape, as are the tender, 2 609 pullmans and the 611 observation car.

Still love his coal car - nicest one I've ever handled!

  I'll take a stab in the dark and guess you mean a "prewar 226E"?  The tender on these is impressive, even if they are a smaller version of the same design tender on the 700E, 763, 773.

BTW  If they're older 022 switches, with a little tweeking you should have better reliability with them than the modern equivalent.

Just send along any CP F3's and dusty old streamliners you find in your FIL's collection.  I'll gladly take those off your hands since nobody collects them anyway

Awh nuts!  Forget what I said about the 226E.  I totally forgot about the 262E tinplate.  I've got cast locos on the brain!.

The pics totally suck!  I had the camera setup wrong and the slightest movement turned into loads of blur...



It is definitely a 262E... depending on if I inherit these (which I doubt due to my brother-in-law), I will be purchasing what he has... I'm not much of a pre-war guy but his stuff is really nice looking and I've seen some dandies on E-Bay, so it will be worth it to get, will look nice with the 1688 Torpedo too...
