I like the fact you are going with the 497, for me, I would go with the green 3459 because it is different.  While it is not as rare as the silver, it is less common than the black.  As mentioned above, the others are great if you have the money and the real estate.  The 497 is nice as it fits in a small amount of space.

I have a 397 and 456 I am not using and was looking to sell as a package with the N&W unloading car. The controller is cracked and was going to replace it before I sold it. But it's a hello a lot less than that.

Mike,

I think that a 397 paired with a 456 is tough to beat when it comes to fun and action.  I have a 397 and a 456, and I'd use them all the time if I had the space to do so.  The prices that guy gave you are very reasonable.

Need help deciding on accessories...

Okay, I posted recently about which coaling accessories go with which and who prefers post-war vs re-issue. Post-war wins and I've figured out the compatibility issue thanks to you guys, so here's my situation.

I have the opportunity to purchase the following lionel accessories and cars: 397, 456, 497, 364, 3469, 3461-25. All are in let's say VG+ to Ex condition, have been serviced, cleaned and ready to operate. I have already decided on the 497 and a 3469 with possibly a green 3459 (depending on the $$ situation). If you had to choose but couldn't have them all which would you pick and why?

Keep in mind that I need at least 2 more pairs of 022 switches and one work caboose either a 2419 or 6419 (hope I got those numbers right).

Here are the numbers, since I'm doing business with the same guy and have made several purchases from him already he is cuttin' and slashin' prices. I've agreed to no boxes where applicable because they are not important to me which resulted in further price reductions.

#397 - $100, #456 - $215, #497 - $145, #364 - $90 - 140, #3469 - low $60, #3461-25 - $65

Layout will be either a "U" 10'x12'x6' or a "L" 10'x14', these are approx. measurements. Prices are probably still subject to negotiation. So tell me what you think listing in decending order of want. Thanks

Mike
