Howdy og3rail, and welcome to the CTT board.
IMHO, manufacturers today offer either the JUMBO-HUMUNGO enclosed auto racks, or trunkated racks which will only hold 4 cars. I personally prefer the open auto racks offered by LIONEL in the 70's. By themselves, they are kinda cheap looking. But by adding 8 1/43 VW Rabbits, or similar small cars, they jump to life. I have a modest layout with O-42 curves, and they are right at home.
We just had a similar thread up a few days ago.

I recently attended the Greenberg Model Railroad show in Raritan, NJ. On one of the operating hi rail layouts had a unit autocarrier train running on it. I am still trying to find out who made these autocarriers I thought they might be MTH but the couplers had air hose's on them. I thought Atlas made an autocarrier that was not articulated that had 3 positions that you could locate the trucks depending on the curve radius of your layout. Does anybody know who else makes an O scale autocarrier?
