When we used real trax on our travelling layout we constantly had a greasy buildup near the switches and around the track.I say greasy but I'm not sure thats the right word.If you ran your fingers on the track they came up black and it felt greasy. It was not oil and it was not smoke fluid. We ran all brands of Locos and do not over oil and do not use smoke fluid as we were usually in buildings where the smoke could not be used. What we found cleaned the tracks the best was the track cleaning car from North East Trains with one of the pads replaced with a scotch Brite pad.A couple of times around in front of the loco and the track cleaned up fine.

You can get Denatured alcohol at Home Depot, at least that's where I got mine. Mine was a quart size can & says S-L-X Denatured alcohol on the can & the can is mostly blue with orange on the bottom & white lettering. I think that size can is over 6 dollars.
Thanks, John
I just bought my first set which came with the Real Trax. The book say to clean the track witth denatured alcohol, what is this and where can I find it. Also is there anything else I can use to clean the track since it said not not rubbing alcohol.
Thanks
Mike
