My set up is very similar to Buckeye's. I have two SC-2s - each drives 4 switches. The other two terminals (per SC-2) drives accessories.
The SC-2s seemed a bit confusing at first - based on Lionel catalog literature. I realized after I got one and read through the documentation they are very versatile.
When driving four switches off of terminals 1 - 4 (I am using Atlas switches) I can use switch 1 to power the SC2 so there is no need to have external power for the SC2 unit itself. However, I recall reading something about an issue with FastTrack remote switches that will not allow you to drive the remote switches from the first block. I do not know if this was every addressed or not.

If you want to control 8 switches independantly, you would need 2 SC-2's. If some of the switches are ganaged (aka for crossovers) you m ight get by with one.
My mistake, Thanks Chuck. I have one SC-2 that runs 6 switches and two more that run both switches and accessories.
