I seem to have a problem with some of these where the die cast thumbtack hangs too low and hits the 3 middle rail and switches. It also drags down the height of the coupler so it doen't line up too good with the other mfr's couplers.  Any way to shim these up a little so it won't hang so low?

 My first experience adding die cast trucks and couplers resulted in about the same experience as yours. I did add a couple of washers between the truck and coupler. This allowed the thumbtack to open to uncouple but it was still easy to short out the truck manually uncoupling on a live center rail. I ended up shelving the cars for a while. Adding the washer aided somewhat. But it raised the carbody even higher. I've never been a fan of the Weaver setup. You can read my reply on the other post about lowering the cars.

 Check your thumbtack. I believe the older stock had a perfectly round one. There was an issue that I believed Weaver resolved on the latest runs. The newer ones are partially round with a flat spot. My recent purchases have not had this issue as my earlier experience. Weaver makes great trucks and the coupler performs well. When you mate the 2 together sharing the same mount. It just doesn't work as good as an Atlas or Lionel.  I've recently converted all my freight cars to Kadee's. This mod has really helped the few Weaver cars I own. Although I used the trucks. I tucked the couplers away in the junk box. They are weathered a bit but your welcome to them if you want to give them a shot. I'll gladly ship them out. You can e mail me at nyc_dave1948@yahoo.com
