Trading Post Train Shop in Cleveland
Posted by Warburton on Friday, March 2, 2007 11:40 AM

FYI, Jim Berilla is recovering well from quadruple bypass surgery and is ahead of schedule,a ccording to his doctor. He is driving again and stopping by the Trading Post daily for an hour or two. The shop is open regular hours now and being run by his friend, Mark, while Jim gets better.

Jim says, "sorry" to the guys who were hoping for a big train auction; he's still kicking (although a little gingerly just now)!

Does Jim still live up above his shop?  Was a customer for years before moving out of state.

After reading the article from Electric Trains I am hoping to visit the shop this summer when I make my way to a Cleveland Indians game. Even though I ll be rooting for the Minnesota Twins.

Glad to hear that he is doing well. Our prays are with him for a speedy recovery.

Dangaurddog - when you come to town, you should include in your plans to stop by "The Western Reserve Model Railroad Museum" in Mentor, Ohio. It's on your way.

I was just there this past Wednesday & talked to Mark. Looks like Jim has a Good Man there in charge while he is recovering. If any of of you call or visit, Just be patient as the Trading Post has an extensive inventory & this is a learning experience for Mark as there are Train's in the Backroom,Basement, & different Cubbyholes as it were &  sometimes he has to ask for Jim's assistance as to where a particular item might be when he's in the store.(Usually a couple of hours a day or less depending how he feels.) Take Care all.

He rents out the upstairs suites. He lives in Parma Hts. or Middleburg Hts, Middleburgh, I think.

Be sure to call before you visit there to make sure he's not away. 2166617300. He sometimes  takes a week off in the summer, sometimes not. Jim has a very nice selection of new and old Lionel, some Marx and quite a bit of Flyer, all in an old-fashioned store which hasn't changed much in looks for 40 years or so. His "inventory system," if you want to call it that, is the same that the Madison Hardware guys in NYC used -- he knows where something is most of the time, and no one else, and there is no real rhyme or reason to the storage! His head is the system!

His friend, Mark, is doing a great job filling in, but there's no way he can know where everything is. It's better now that Jim is coming in a couple hours each day.

It's a lot of fun to visit, and if you don't see something on the wall, be sure to ask about it.

No doubt about it!   The Trading Post is an excellent Train Shop & I was saying to Mark that Jim Probably has lots more Treasures stashed away somewhere in the shop & Jim sure does use the Madison Hardware method of doing business as he knows where all of his inventory is located throughout the place. Take Care all.
