BTW, Neil:  On behalf of the On30 community, I am imploring you to recognize that On2 1/2, however consistent that designation may be with other, related, designations for narrow gauge scale/gauge combinations, is not the designation favored by its adherents.

Hear our plea, Oh Great Mogul of the Flagship Mag:  we prefer On30!

We thank you for your consideration.

I thought Niel did a great job!!  I hope he does well at MR.  Although I read  and enjoy both CTT and MR, Neil was the 1st CTT editor who I thought actually treated those of us in tinplate and hirail as having a legitimate hobby.

I can't tell you how patronized I was in certain correspondence from CTT by other editors who seemed to have no understanding of Toy Trains (my favorite was when the editor couldn't understand why I was upset when a collumist told someone to throw out an American Flyer transformer because it was "malfunctioning" when it was actually preforming as it was designed to do, although the editor who felt there was no need to have a yearly index to CTT because those of us in Toy Trains "never needed to look things up" wasn't one of my favorites.)

I hope the new editor won't treat us as badly as some have done in the past.

Neil, congratulations on your promotion to MR editor! Thanks for the great work you did with CTT.

Of course, the weenie scale guys are going to wonder about all of the 3 rail articles that start showing up in MR. Wink [;)]

Neil, Congratulations and best wishes in your new position.  I have been a long time reader of MR as well as CTT so will still benefit from your top notch work.

See you at York next month.

So Long Neil and my best wishes for your success at Model Railroader.  I had been a subscriber to CTT for a few years when you became editor.  You have done an excellent job of keeping an excellent magazine on top and taking it to new heights.  Now I will have to take a peek at Model Railroader from time to time to keep "track" of what you are doing.

 Thank you, Dick

Congratulations Neil,

As a relative newbie to the O gauge hobby thank you for your informative magazine. I have felt that CTT is the most international aware O gauge magazine. I hope this continues under your replacement as it helps involve readers such as myself and helps promote the growing interest in 3 rail O in Europe and elsewhere. Good luck with the new job.

Neil, congratulations!  Please remember us here in the world of O.  A lot of very usefull information transends scales, so please keep it up at MR.  As to your replacement, I may have just the fella.  How about Jim Duda?  Not sure what all his qualifications may be, but he does handle a snow blower....but I think he does it in the buff...may have to rethink this one.

Anyway, congrats and best wishes,

Dennis

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate them.

The plan is for me to be at CTT until June 1. I will be at York in April, and yes, one of the qualifications for the new CTT editor is to own a snowblower (after last weekend, a 2-stage snowblower is preferred!).

Enjoyment of brats and beer are also a plus.

Sincerely,
Neil

Frist of all, congrats to Neil! It definitely is a promotion in the truest sense of the word.

"Model Railroader" is the flagship of Kalmbach publications (which encompass more than the model railroading hobby).  It is, indeed, the foundation of the company, and I assume it remains the publication with the largest circulation and greatest frequency of publication (at least as far as this hobby is concerned).

I'm sure it means a whole lot more work for Neil, but that's generally part of any promotion.

All the best to Neil!  I'll be interested in seeing which of the scales he elects to go with in his own modeling interests, beyond his already well developed interest in O gauge.

Please don't tell me that even Bob Keller subscribes to the silly theory that somehow "Model" trains are superior to "Toy" trains. . .

Congratulations to Neil.  CTT is the best toy train magazine in the world, and MR is the best model railroading magazine, IMO.

My take is MR is a publication with about 3-5 times the circulation (can't recall specifically) so it's a much bigger job, and presumably better paid :).  Thus, a promotion of sorts.

"Neil Besougloff promoted to Model Railroader Editor" ??????
Posted by palallin on Thursday, March 1, 2007 8:50 AM

First of all, congrats to Neil (assuming this is a move he wants to make)!!!

But how does the move rate as a promotion?  He was chief editor of CTT; now he is for MR.  I suppose, by virtue of age, MR may be a somewhat more prestigious post and it may even pay more, but how is the move a promotion?

Please don't tell me that even Bob Keller subscribes to the silly theory that somehow "Model" trains are superior to "Toy" trains. . .
