A caveat:  most of those lists are O SCALE lists.  I'm on almost a dozen.  Mentioning 3-rail or Lionel (K-Line, Williams, etc.)(except as conversion fodder or to bash 3-railers will get you flamed on most of them and banned on some.  I am not kidding.

The public groups that require no formal registration got indundated with spam. So a lot of the "open" groups moved to restricted groups to keep the spammers out. So some of the 84 groups are dupes. Other groups formed new groups to get more filespace, etc. Some groups fizzled out and are basically abandoned.

I think I'm subscribed to about 20 groups over there. Some have a lot of activity every day, others only get a message or two a month. Most are highly specialized.

At any rate, I've learned a ton from them. A lot of the groups harbor information that is very difficult to find elsewhere, or maybe doesn't even exist anywhere else.

I belong to a few Yahoo groups - left over from before they purchased e-groups - They are certainly esoteric: for Illinois Railfanning, the IRM, Midwest Interubans, and believe it or not O Scale Traction! I recommend if you join one, select to 'read messages via the web' and receive no emails - that takes care of spam and you can peruse at your leisure!

I clicked the link. Appears to be a really bad format, and the few that I investigated turned out to be loaded with spam - "Lose Weight Now - Ask Me How!", "I got my engineering degree in four days in the mail", "This worked for me - it'll work for you too!" etc etc, etc

I made a New Year's Resolution to give up my two football forums, after a day or two, I was scratching my head wondering why I ever participated in either one of them. I scan each once a day to keep up on news, but gave up posting.

I read the three major O-Gauge forums daily - regularly post on two and occasionally post on the other - more than enough.
