AIU Question
Posted by Fred Bear on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 3:31 PM

I can about imagine my membership here will soon be pulled for some many questions! But here goes on more.

On the DCS AIU, do you need to power EACH channel on the AIU? There are like 30 or so across the board, not sure of the actual numbers, but a bunch. Also, can a person jumper wire from IN to IN on the channels? Thanks, Jake

Hello Jake:

I am sure others with more knowledge will chime in.  However, the AIU itself needs no power, only the connection to the TIU.  The AIU is just a series of relays, similar to a turnout switch, uncoupling switch, etc.  The item being controlled through the AIU will dictate how it is wired.  Since some of these accessories may utilize track power, no power is needed in the AIU.  Other accessories using a separate power source will need power wired into the "IN" contact.  The AIU user's manual has excellent diagrams detailing the appropriate wiring for various types of accessories.

Good Luck!

I did not get a manual with the AIU so I'm a bit lost. My Atlas switches work fine, powered by a seperate source. I powered the IN on the channel, but where do the wires coming from the light go? thanks, Jake

PS. Seems as if I've tried every combination, but I'm guessing there's one left, the correct one!
