I too replaced the mth units with lionels 135IRs. I found them to work very well for my problem. In my case it was the floresent lights that gave me trouble. FG
I assume you are talking about the ITAD that looks like a small power box.
I have one and have learned that it is a problematic piece of hardware. If you search the forum I am sure you will find others who have commented that is it very sensitive to ambient light, do not have the sensors pointed in the direction of a window or bright light source. Some have found if you put a piece of clear tape over the sensor windows that it helps.
I use mine as a part of the scenery and rely on Lionel's IR 135 Controller, which in my experience is much better.
