Here are some pics of one of our OTTS members, 2 rail O scale layout!
This is an MTH Shay 3-2, it will run on both 3 rail and 2 rail.

Great photos guys!
Spankybird That MTH Shay really belts out some smoke!!! Is that typical for MTH stuff, if it is I think I want to buy a few of their smoke units. I really like the shots from on the tracks!
csxt30 Cool find! Did I miss an Ohio train show yesterday?
F J and G I wonder whose sweetie would appreciate a mine car with flowers in it! Those are awesome! Where did you find those???
Sturgeon-Phish Cool night shot!

Underworld : the train show was in Parma yesterday !!

Frank, your layout amazes me. I love it, and the postwar makes it that much better.
Great pix today guys.
csxt30 I do get to Cleveland area sometimes..... I probably would have yesterday if I knew there was a show. Oh well, not too much cash right now anyway. I'll have time to save some for the Toledo show March 11. I did get to an antique show here yesterday and picked up a plaster gargoyle that was used as a master to make production models. I think I might use it along side a tunnel entrance.
Underworld - Nothing smokes like an MTH !

My OSU Train smokes very well as long as you use MTH smoke fluid, I tryed lionel fluid and it hardly did anything at all. Don't know at mega smoke in a MTH unit.
The brass hats at Chessie System sent their newest GP-40 to Meyersdale, just in time for the town's RAILFEST! #4061 (part of an order of 65 from EMD by B&O circa 1971) brought with it some display cabooses, and tickets can be bought for railfan trips up to SandPatch and back ($10 cab ride/$5 caboose). Looks like Scruffy wants a piece of the big Cat!
Reggie - this is the MTH Premier GP-40 we had discussed before....and only 9 months past due date. I am very happy with it, just the same.
spankybird and CSXect Thanks! Looks like I'll be shopping for a few MTH smoke units.
csxt30 Sounds good...I might be able to make the Sunday show.
Underworld; they were from a Luxembourgoin website, http://www.rail.lu/wagonmines.html.
Well, here is our meager desk; we move Feb 5 (same job, different building). Any ideas for a 3-rail desktop trackplan? I'm thinking bent dogbone. At the worst, could do point to point and record a back and forth movement in DCS and loop the recording. :-) Now, how many levels can I get away with.
Work progressing on my Plymouth (got about 8 projects keeping me busy). BTW, I'm thinking about putting shellac over this wood when all the details are added. Does anyone know if spray paint can adhere to shellac?
A local railfan caught a pair of NYC F uints with a short consist of new cars and piggy back trailers. Notice the last set of trailers, must be a load of new trains for your local hobby shop.
Great shots!! Everyone!!!!
Tom!! Where did your 2-rail friend find the coaling and sanding towers? WOW!!!!!
Here are some close ups of the 5011 on the siding.
F J and G Thanks for the link! Lots of great photos there. BTW great job on your signal article...I just saw it the other day. Spray should adhere well to the shellac...the shellac acts as a sealer for the wood. Looks like a fun project.
My new Williams GG1
My Marx PRR
c-burke9 Is that a ram that you have doing track work by the GG1???
Here's my Marklin gauge 1 making it through the new snow.
It is 19 degrees and high on Mount Zodiac, the trains are running:
Due to ice on the track, we couldn't use the engine to plow the snow. Gotta have juice!!

David,
Shellac is often used as a primer / sealer in woodworking. It should not be a problem to paint over it.
Another great set of pictures!!! Thanks for posting.

Buckeye, You need to build a Winter snow plow with battery power like David has done with his outdoor pike. On the Atlas forum there was a post within the last couple of days by another modeler who had converted a G guage GP7 to battery power contolled by DCC contoller & RC. All kinds of ideas out there.

John, most of the time the difficulty in getting the trains to run outside is not the snow. We seem to almost always get some freezing rain just before a snow and it coats the tracks. I use a garden hoe to scrape the ice from the tracks. After I scrape, the engines can move most snow with the cow catcher.
Also, ice sometimes coats the ties and lifts the engines and cars off of the track such that they do not get power. Everything gets brittle at the cold temperatures.
@underworld, that's a nice engine you've got there.. It's on the wrong tracks by the way..
About smoke-units, on http://norm.beesky.com/ there is an "how to" page on smoke units. See the link on the bottom of the page. MTH smokeunits have hotter elements in it.
On my layout there is a bit of improvement. Not much though. I've been building a roadbridge and started a coalmine, but tore them down again. It didn't "feel" good, so my planes have been changed a bit. What I'm planning to do I don't know yet, but the articles with the water in the last ctt gave me some ideas though..
The union station has a roof now and the platforms are installed..
Also the road has pavement and the parking places are made.
And the forrest road is now embedded in the landscape..
