This was a known problem with the PowerChief 120, you may want to Google around, but I think it is a bad connection or cold solder joint that can be fixed quite readily.

I have 3 of these and I really like them they really deliver power for my size of railroading.  Which maybe my problem.  I regularly run 3 engines with one pulling a 8 coach lite combine.  my 80watt lionel transformer wont touch it.  Two of my three transformers have have the potentiometer burn out and now they out put a constant 18v.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Has anyone upgraded one of these.

The cases are pop rivitet together, I wasthinking about building a new case and installing a slide dimmer for the controller.  Maybe I'll but both of them in one case and have a duel 120watt transformer, I could even install a voltmeter and ampmeter.  hmmm, may try this this weekend after the trainshow in louisville saturday.
