I keep boxes, only because if I have to mail something I've sold or something that needs repair, the original packaging is the way to go.

If the boxes will fold down with out breaking the box or a sealing tape,do so and buy a large "tupperware" type container found at most retail stores and keep them.

I've stored hundreds of "hotwheels" type cars on their cards for my kids this way.I've been lucky to not run out of room for my trains yet.I keep them in a cabinet I built and underneath the temporary layout I got downstairs.

When I finally get my layout finished I guess I store trains under it . Smile [:)]

Having the boxes is a good idea if you are ever going to sell or trade anything. Also if you have to ship anything or if you move. Storage space is always a problem....I haven't figured that one out yet.

Original Boxes and cartons
Posted by trainman111 on Monday, January 22, 2007 8:05 PM

Recently I have noticed my collection of  empty boxes and shipping cartons from many trains and accessories I recently purchased growing. I am always hesitent on throwing them away, is there a rule of thumb on what to and not to keep, obviously the older lionel boxes I will keep safe and in good condition, but newer items I am not to sure, especially on items I do not plan to sell. I could sure use the storage space these boxes are taking up. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks!!!
