Well I charged my ni-cad batteries up in my cab-1 this morning & it feels like I don't have to press as hard on the buttons now to do stuff with !! They were down to 1.2 & after charging, they read 1.4 volts now. Works better now !!

Thanks, John

Folks:

I've run into the same problem with the CAB-1 remote.  Somewhere I saw a tip (maybe in the "other" mag) about opening the CAB-1 and lightly cleaning the button contacts with an eraser.  I haven't done this with my CAB-1 yet, but have done this in the past for "touch tone" telephones whose performance has become erratic and can confirm that it works.

Good luck!

Mike, no problem, perhaps it is  a good reminder for all that the first place to start is with the basics.  Had a friend that worked for AT&T, the fee for his service was over $400/hr.  He has many stories of flying to a location to walk in and find an item simply unplugged, or a very basic computer error that all the "experts" just assumed had already been checked.  I suppose we all have such moments.  Glad it is a easy fix and that you are back to full running with a simple battery change.

Sorry for being lame, but it was the batteries. Geez I just change them during the summer and it only seemed like it was two buttons. Duh!!!. New batteries and all is well. My first set seemed to last much longer.

    Thanks for this.

Have you changed the batteries recently?  Or made any wiring changes?  Is it all engines or only one?

Cab1 wearing out?
Posted by msacco on Saturday, January 20, 2007 4:44 PM

has anyone had problems with some buttons on their CAB1 wearing out. My whistle and of course direction aren't responding as well as they used to. The whistle especially is a problem. I have to push pretty hard and even then the signal seems to cut out and the whistle breaks up both with traditional air whistles and electronic.

Can the contacts be cleaned on CAB1s or do you just replace the whole unit. Mine been around a few years but has been used a lot during the last year.

 Thanks,

Mike S.
