I just wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to answer my recent questions.
Construction of the permanent layout starts this week/weekend - the wood is in the garage! This project has been in the planning stage for over a year.
Finding a source for nice wood was more difficult than I thought. I found a source for kiln dried clear poplar. Straight boards with good edges and dry to the touch. I will be building an L girder table with foam decking. The foam is 2 inches thick and comes in 2' x 8' sheets. The table joists will be 12" on center to provide support in the center of the foam boards.
Because of Jim Fortner's suggestion the other week, I was able to find leveling feet at "Wood Craft". These feet are perfect!
The layout portion (track, wiring, etc.) generated a lot of questions as I began to look at the options (too many options), trace things out, and think how I wanted the layout to be used now and down the road. Everyone's responses on topics ranging from transformers, TMCC for conventional control, toggle switches, and most recently turnouts and engines and cars that can go through them, have been an enormous help.
Thanks again for everyone's contribution and help.
Pictures to appear on Sunday Photo Fun.
