Are you OK Buckeye Riveter?
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 7:33 PM

I just want to make sure you are OK after last nights game.  I am a Penn State fan so I was obvioulsy pulling for the Big Ten team, but that was pretty bad.  Maybe next year.  Hang in there.

Those of us in the northern part of the state are use to it. After all the last time the Indians won the world series was before I was born and let's not forget the Browns winning the Superbowl. Sigh [sigh] Of course there is next year! ! ! ! ! Banged Head [banghead]

At least your team made the finals. I'm in the Land Of The Mets, Yankees, Giants, Jets, Rangers, Knicks, St. John's Red Storm, Columbia.........Need I Say More?  You can certainly be proud. They made a good run.  Next year? Who knows? Keep The Faith!

I had to hear all about the "Bucks" going to the BCS championship bowl game at work.

Now I'll have to do some counselling when I return Wink [;)] .

Oh ! What about Kentucky and WVU ? I was really impressed with UK this year.

But the "Buckeyes" did very well all year.

Their fieldgoal kicker is from the next little town beside me,Raceland,Ky (home of the CSX carshop -now Progress Rail's facility)  .

We have the hapless lions...

Vieing, once again for the worst record in the NFL..Our hopes are focused on 'winning' the worst record to get the first round draft pick, again.

Every so often they make a run for it, and let it slip, but those are few and far between.

Hey.Did you know the Detriot Lions got thier start in Portsmouth Ohio (home of NS's Portsmouth yard) as the Porstmouth Spartans ?

The Detriot Lions is the oldest NFL franchise Cool [8D] .

Spatan Stadium is still being used by Portsmouth High School,a very cool looking old stadium. It is an all concrete and brick stadium.

And another ex-pro football team was the Ironton Tanks located in Ironton,Ohio.Their stadium "Tank Stadium" a covered bleacher style stadium,is still being used by the Ironton Fighting Tigers,at one time a real powerhouse in Ohio High School football.

Ironton is the "I" in the  DT&I r.r..The N&W r.r. also had a desent size yard in Ironton (mp.n 580.0 - mp.n 578.0)  that interchanged with the DT&I.The yard still operated by the NS is not a very busy place anymore, mainly MoW storage, and one business that unloads salvage coal and loads sulpher tankcars. At one time it was the only yard on the N&W that operated 24/7,365 days a year, all 3 shifts including Christmas.

Ironton lies east of Portsmouth by about 22 railroad miles.

Another bit of football trivia is who were the original Washington Redskins?

Answer:  Pottsville Maroons from Pottsville Pa. back in the late 20s early 30s.

Still today they still have the maroon color in there jerseys.

Has the sun come up in the east yet?  Sigh [sigh]  Have the birds started singing again?  It is going to be a long cold winter in Buckeyeland.  Sad [:(]

Thanks for all the kind words, and I need to remember one thing; we did beat TEXAS the home of Friday Night Lights. Wink [;)]
