Why do you guys have blinking lights on top of bridges? Does it have a purpose in real life or is it just something nice to look at? In sealand where I live we are completely cramped with bridges, but none of them have a flashing light on top of it.

Daan, it is quite common in the U.S. to see a big bridge with red flashing lights on top of the piers.   It is supposedly an aircraft warning light,................I just hope I'm never in an aircraft flying that low!!!

On the other hand, beneath the bridge it is common to see the red and green navigation lights indicating the channel location.

This might help.  If I was going to do several bridges, I might try running multiple strobe lights off of some unit like this.

Where would I get lights like that?  Do you have them all hooked up in series?  I have a bunch of bridges.

I mount a red grain of wheat bulb atop my bridges.I use an old lionel 40Watt transformer with a signal flasher from an auto store hooked into the hot wire.This blinks the light a regular intervals and at a pleasing brightness.I hook all blinking lights to this transformer so my other light don"t dim when the bride light blinks.You don't notice if two or more blink at the same time this way.

NOTE    don't use a heavy duty flasher.

I have several large bridges from "100 year Bridge Co".  I would like to have a neat blinking light on top.  Does anyone know of  a simple way to do this.  I assume I can just run off of the track but would like to find the lights.
