I have recently been given a nice set of NYC Madisons and a set of NYC streamliners. I would like to get a good looking NYC Hudson to go with them. While I do have some larger loops, I have mostly 0-36 fastrack switches and would like to get opinions of which Hudson I should seek, or if anyone has one to unload? The cars are MTH, but I am open to any suggestions. I may even look into the Williams #773. Optimally, I will upgrade to TMCC on this locomotive.
Thanks,
Dennis

Hi Dennis,
You didn't say if the cars were scale or traditional size (or if that even matters to you).
The Lionel traditional size Lionmaster NYC Hudson (0-31) is a really nice locomotive.
For scale, the Lionel 773 and Williams may be the only ones that can negotiate 0-36 curves. My MTH scale Hudsons are rated for 0-42.
I do not have a MTH RK Hudson (0-31). The tender is too out of proportion with the loco for my tastes.
Good luck!
Regards, Roy
Roy, these passenger sets are the Railking O/O27 ones. I do have a Railking Hudson that I am bidding on, but I agree in that the tender is a bit out of proportion. I appreciate the response. It may be that the 773 or the like is the way to go.
Dennis,
I have a set of RK Madison cars (UP) that go great with my Lionel Lionmaster Challenger.
I think you will be pleased with the RK Hudson or whichever way you decide to go.
How bout a MTH Commodore Vanderbilt
The Williams 773 Hudson is an excellent choice if you are running on 036 Fastrack. Late Lionel and MTH scale hudsons with all the electronic poo poo require broader curves and are a bit more expensive than evan an upgraded Williams. The 773 proportions are beautiful and it will look fine with MTH RK madisons. If not, get larger cars at some later point in time. The smaller Hudsons are OK but they don't capture the NYC Hudson the way the 773 does. If you're a postwar kind of guy, the Williams 773 is the next best thing to the real deal. The streamliner Paul posted would look good with the streamline coaches.
Well, I believe the search is over....for now. I won that MTH hudson for $125. I look forward to getting it. I still will go for the 773, but at a later time. I am going to try to post the photo of the engine. It does have protosound, but I think I will try to change it to TMCC.
Thanks for the help,
