super o track

my layout is all super o track. It goes without saying that all my postwar Lionel rolling stock runs well on it. oh yes,and I don't have any wear on the pick up rollers that I've heard complaints about. my concern is that I would like to purchase a K-line hudson or berkshire. anyone out there know if the flanges on these locomotives are to large to handle the track? thanks so much

I would love to see pics of your super O layout. Super O was the best looking track ever produced and I wish Lionel would release it again. As for Kline engines, I don't think you will have a problem. super O track has the same height as 0-27, and gargraves track. The flanges shouldn't be a concern.

And since Kline engines will run and any track system made today it shouldn't be a problem.

I have recently completed a new Super O layout with 2 mainlines, a reverse loop and a freight yard with 3 sidings and I am constantly Derailing on the turnouts no mater how slow the approach, going in or out. I am using a 736 and other rolling stock from 1954-1957. Anyone with any advice or tips. Help!

That's the only week point with Super O is the turnouts. The only thing I can tell you is run the engine as slow as possible and watch where the trucks/wheels are jumping off the rail. Maybe something is bent or out of alignment. Otherwise junk the switches and use Ross custom switches.

I was having the same derailing problem with some Marx 333 4-6-2 steam engines that I have. The problem turned out to be that the pilot trucks had too much slop in rail to rail dimension. As soon as I tightened up the clearances the pilots stayed between the rails and on the track. The outside wheels were rolling up the side of the frog and derailing. One of the engines also had driver wheels that were pulling off the end of the axle, from age and wear. Remounting and using lock-tite on the axle got that problem fixed too. I also found this problem on some older rolling stock. Replacing the trucks, shimming the axle, or otherwise adjusting the wheel to wheel play kept the wheels from rolling up and off when crossing the frog.
