Cool Set- Who makes it though?
Posted by LS1Heli on Saturday, December 30, 2006 6:14 PM

I was at the HS today and saw this really cool set for $585.00. It was a Santa Fe F3 AA with 6 passenger cars. The cars where not scale, but they were not toy like either.

It had "2333" on it but what really caught me was the engine and all cars where completely bright chrome (where the silver normally is on the warbonnet)

Obviously not Lionel.

Who made this set? It also had vintage coil couplers on it.

I have some pass cars from MTH, their chrome. The engines are Lionel though, didn't get them as a set

Yes,

It is Lionel. Lionel's first F3 was the 2333 in Santa Fe and NYC schemes. In 1950 The number changed to 2343 and Magne-Traction was added. In 1952 a set of Streamliners for the 2343 were made. The next year the Santa Fe FE changed to 2353 as did the other F3's. For more history on the F3's pick up a book because there is much, too much too tpye and I really don't feel like sitting for hours typing.

If it has Coil Couplers than it must be Lionel. The Passenger cars however could be from someone else.

Do you have a picture you could show us?

It MIGHT have been the MTH set. It was a AA with 6 passengers cars (one of which was a full vistadome).

The engine had 2333 on the markers and what I forgot to mention was a "yellowed" GM decal on it. Kinda looked cool like MTH tried to make it look vintage. It really caught my eye. The F-3s looked identical to Lionel's but the fuel tank was deeper on one end.
