Now that I am working on my first layout, I look at everything with trains a little bit differently. I am always looking for something that I might be able to put on the layout. With this in mind, I am wondering what is your favorite train related holiday movie? My son loves the little freight train in Frosty the Snowman. Of course, who doesn't like refrigerated cars filled with cakes and ice cream!
I like White Christmas as Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye take a streamliner from Miami to Vermont (I am not sure if the continuity in the film is accurate as it is difficult to make out the markings on the outside of the trains).
Another holiday classic is Holiday Affair with Robert Mitchum selling a toy train set to Janet Leigh.

In "White Christmas", they travel from Florida to Vermont on two different trains - the first is the Santa Fe Super Chief, then the Southern Pacific on the final leg of the journey. That's almost as bad as the "Andy Griffith" episode in which a Union Pacific passenger train is seen arriving at Mayberry!

Lou, I watched the Polar express tonight. The steam sounds were pretty good. Did a Berkshire loco ever pull a passenger train?
I might look for a DVD that remastered some old steam era footage. A friend of mine gave me a DVD of a 4-8-4 Santa Fe passenger trip filmed by a fella that actually sat on top of the tender to film some portions. It is a great film.
Lou:
Thanks for the information. I thought the train looked like a SP, but I couldn't believe it. Well, I guess Hollywood was not too concerned about the continuity as most of the audience probably wouldn't pay attention to those details.

If your cable or satellite TV gets it, check out the RFD channel. They have segments of real trains ("Trains and Locomotives") as well as toy trains "I Love Toy Trains". Here is an example of their program guide:

Their shows are also available on DVD but I'm not allowed to post the websites where you can buy them.

Unless you represent the company selling the DVDs or are promoting as an individual the sale of your own DVDs, I believe you are free to post the DVD websites.

lionelsoni: It's a fine line that I prefer not to walk.
My family makes it a tradition to watch the 1997 animated film "Anastasia" every Christmas season. The train scene is phenomenal ... it almost looks real. The train sways side-to-side just like a real passenger train. I would highly recommend this one ... and it's an overall great family movie to watch with some popcorn and a fire.
Merry Christmas!Brad
One thing about trains: It doesn't matter where they’re going. What matters is deciding to get on.
