The e-unit was never taken apart...it is very tight.  I did replace 2 wires inside the unit.  These were soldered from the back.

It could be the stakes that hold it together are loose and need to be peened over. Try tugging at it with your fingers to see.

Probably nothing wrong with your wiring.  E-units often buzz, some of them quite loud.

There are modifications to quiet them, if you want to get into that.

The 2338 (has a Pennsy $12 shell on it) (2338 shells are running $75 on a popular internet auction site that shall remain nameless) back from the dead.

I re-wired everything except the e-unit (I did replace 2-wires) according to the Greenberg Seventh edition repair manual.  I used the #22 ga super flex from the collectors to the e-unit, and 20 ga stranded for the rest to the work.

The e-unit cycles fine, but has a terrible buzz with power.  Did I wire something wrong or is it a problem with the e-unit?  Suggestions?

Thank you,

Kurt
