Halloween sets?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, December 8, 2006 9:11 AM
Looking through various sites, I've seen a couple of Lionel Halloween cars, but not a full set. Did Lionel at some point put out a Halloween set, or are these just box cars that have been made thoughout the years? They looked interesting to me. Thanks all

Hi! and Welcome to the CTT Forum.  Well, I've got quite a lot of their Halloween stuff in the past 2 years.  Last year they released a Halloween General Locomotive with tender.  They also released a Halloween Sounds Boxcar and a Working Caboose that came with plastic spiders and stuff.  This year, they released a matching Halloween Dockside Switcher, an operating gondola that has a vampire and a mummy running around the gondola, and a different caboose.    I think a couple years ago they released a few boxcars with a halloween theme, although they aren't for the Transylvania RR.  They included a bobbing head vampire car, bobbing head ghost car, a bobbing pumpkin car, a bobbing head witch car, and an aquarium car with bats.  I picked up the bobbing head ghost car at a dealer last year.  The other ones are going for about double price on ebay - might have better luck getting a good buy now, though, since it's after the Halloween rush...?  I think they also had a Halloween SET a few years back, but I haven't seen it anywhere.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Thanks for the reply, it sounds like those cars would make a pretty cool Halloween train, if put together. I saw a couple that you mentioned, but not all of them. It would be nice if they were offered as a set.

It would be VERY nice - buying all the cars they released separately and the two loco's probably cost more than TWO sets that would have included loops of fastrack and transformers, I'll bet.

They need to think up some operating cars to go with - like vat cars of blood etc, dump cars full of skulls, that sort of thing.  In the meantime, I know that Dougdagrump and I both came up with some cars like that for ourselves and if memory serves Spankybird first made a vat car 2 years ago (though it might have been for Christmas) which from which I stole the idea with gleeful abandon.  I hope he didn't mind too much!

My 2 favorite Holidays are Christmas and Halloween.  Trying to figure out what to do for Christmas this year - last year I got the Polar Express with the two expansion cars.  I don't know whether I'll get the new expansion car or elf handcar, though.  Maybe get that North Pole 4-4-0 (?) or Dockside switcher...?  I know I WON'T get that Large Scale train they are pushing.

Jim,

Those are great ideas you have there with the vat and dump cars. How did you make your own? I think a full Halloween set would be a great idea.

My favorite holiday is Halloween too, which is why those looked interesting to me. Too bad you say they are so expensive. I was never really a big Christmas person, and ever since I started working at UPS, that made the holiday that much more difficult to enjoy.

So thats how I got started here, my wife bought me the Noth Pole Central Express, and Ive since become quickly addicted. Ive already got the Freight and Passenger expansion packs. Gives me something to look forward to now, and something I can enjoy with my daughter.

I didnt like thier larger scale set either, plus there were no add-ons for it like there is for everything else.
