? Help with a 243W tender
Posted by Dr. John on Monday, December 4, 2006 12:21 PM

Question [?]  I have a 243W whistling tender that "growls" instead of whistles. When I hit the whistle button on my KW, the tender emits a noise that sounds more like a garbage disposal than a whistle.

Is it feasible to repair or replace the whistle mechanism in the tender? If so, where is a good source to find parts?

Thanks for your help! Smile [:)]

Dr. John,

Try placing a drop of oil on the bronze shaft bushing in the brushplate, and also oil the bushing that is under the armature.  The 243W my dad has was making the same type of noise, and a good cleaning and some oil took care of it.  It has always had a bit of a growl to it though.

Thanks, Jim! I'll try that.
