Picture posting instructions for computer challenged please
Posted by Sturgeon-Phish on Monday, December 4, 2006 7:26 AM

Well got the digital camera and software (kodak easyshare) and after reading the available material, searching posts, and trying to get my daughter to show me, I am still at a loss at how to take the pictures from the computer to posts.  I am embarassed that I can't figure it out.  Could some one write out instructions that could be titled "Posting Pictures for Idoiots", please.  I would really like to share with you all my trains and layout.

Thank you ahead of time

Jim

Jim,

Are you using a MAC or a PC ?   If it is a PC, do you know how to copy and paste?

Have you signed up for a on line photo service such as Shutterfly?

I sure hope we can get you posting photos especially of the trains and boats that pass through your part of Ohio.

Most cameras come with software to allow you to upload from the camera to the computer.  Most computers will now recognize the camera's so the software is less of an issue.  You do need to have a "hosting" site to hold the photo albums.  Some ISP (internet service providers) allow you a set amount of space for this type of activity (aka storage space and a web address to reference to).  You can also use a site dedicated to photo album support like "Shutterfly".  You will need to move the photo's from your computer to this site (using some type of file transfer protocol, usually vendor supplied) and use the site's web address for constructing the (where ... is the web address of the photo) syntax to make the photo's show up in a post.

My system is Windows XP.  I live about 500 feet from the Ohio River where the C&O crosses the Ohio.  The Sciotoville Bridge is one awesome bridge.  Once I get started I'll post pics of the bridge for you.

Thanks already!!!

I would also suggest that you use the forum on this website entitled "Forum Testing".  Its the place to "trial and error" things like posting pictures without being embarrassed.  The link is below:

Jim-- I would also recommend Shutterfly, it seems easy to use plus they sell a nice product if you are so inclined. I'm a Mac person so I won't be able to help you with your Windoze platform but there are lots of great/helpful folks who will walk you through it. Good Luck. Jon

Bob Keller-- How come all of my responses go to one paragraph when I do actually use paragraph separation? I did pay attention, most of the time, in engleesh clas :) Jon

It has been reported to happen on the PCs as well.
