2 scales on one lay out?

Has any one here ever ran 2 diffrent scales on the same layout? 
Right now for Christmas I have an oval of HO inside an oval of Fastrack.  Sure it is not realistic but its alot of fun.  I was thinking about doing a small o gauge layout on plywood with a loop of HO.  I would like to get in to On30 so those trains should match the rest of the lay out.  Then when I want to run my old HO stuff I could just remove the O trains and have at it.  Or run them both at the same time and say "Heck" to reality, it woulnt be the first time : )
Any thoughts?
BTW I would just like to thank all you all for running such a nice fourm.  You have all been so freindly and willing to help.  If this fourm is any indiaction, the pepole are one of the best reasons to get back in to training.

My local train shop (Papa Ben's Trains in Houston) has a small layout with a loop of O, HO, N, Z.  It works fine.  Some folks who mix scales put the smaller scale to the back or top to "force perspective".  So you might want O on the outside and then do a raised platform of HO in the middle, perhaps leaving just enough room on the O level for one set of accessories on the front half of the loop.  Most of the scenic stuff could then be on the HO portion in HO scale and you would therefor have much more volume for scenery.

Get into the garden guys, 1:20.3, 1:22.5, 1:24, 1:29 and a few home bashed ones that could be anything, all out at the same time. The scenery is 1:1 so who cares.

CTT has had some wonderful layouts with S and O. Think the January issue has one as well. Have been a Flyer aficionado for years, but from a distance. With Flyer in the backgroud and S in the foregroud. Looks great.

The only "mix" I have is a "N" circle set up as a kiddie ride in my "amusement area". It lead me to build a small 2x4 "N" layout, which I have on my large computer desk, so I can "post and play" at the same time. Joe

when i put together a permanent CHristmas layout, i plan on making it about 9x5 feet or so...  running two O gauge loops on the outside because O rules and the kids loves the larger locos, and then 1 HO loop on the inside and model everything else in HO....

 

this will leave me more room and options with the space to model everything in HO...  can fit im nore action in the limited space...

Seriously, I have an S-scale train on the layout right now that a neighbor gave me.  It's prewar American Flyer.

A couple of years ago, K-Line planned to make an S gauge version of its Porter 0-4-0 (same body as the O gauge version with S mechanism). I always wished I had purchased one to have an "O narrow gauge" using American Flyer track along with my O three rail. (Yes, I know all about On30). I thought the two types of tubular track complemented each other better than O and HO track.

I'm not sure if K-Line ever produced the S Porter - anyone know?

I don't use O tubular and HO:  I use Gargraves and Peco On30 track.  They actually work fairly well together.  However, your idea of using S gauge would work nicely, too.  You could put S trucks under O27 cars, and they would contrast well enough with Standard O cars on O tubular.

Yes, the Gargraves and Peco would go nicely together. For that matter, a combination of Fastrack and any of the HO track with built-in roadbed would blend well. I guess I'm a sucker for the look of tubular rails!

I have run HO and O together - my middle boy's trains and 'my' trains. I got an appreciation for O's higher tolerance of uneven track, etc.

Seems there was a layout in CTT that did have the three scales.

O, S, and HO on the very tip-top of the layout.
