Ok... what am I doing wrong?
Posted by Greg T. on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 11:35 AM

Sense the new CTT website started... I can know longer post pics.  When I try to paste my photo in the "Create Link" box it doesn't work.  I've also tried typing in ["imp"] in front of the link and ["/imp"] after the link and still nothing.  What am I missing?

Thanks,

Greg

I think you need to be running IE 6. Editor functions in other browsers is pretty lame (e.g. Firefox)

Greg, are you using Microsoft Internet Explorer Version No. 6  or   Version No. 7?

Version No. 7 is a piece of crap and no one so far that has tried using it has been satisfied with postings  of  photos.  I tried it and then removed it and went back to Version 6.

That being said, if you are using a MAC,  the guys using this system will tell you that they have trouble with the CTT software.

Using the copy command, I copy a photo from Shutterfly (an online photo service) and paste it into the reply.  No problems and very easy.  You don't use the links or img coding.

As a comparison, I use Firefox under Windows, and posting/viewing pictures works without a hitch.  So there is another option for Windows if IE7 doesn't work.

The link button on the editor hasn't worked for me either.  For including HTTP://... links in a post I have had to type ["link"] http://web.address.here ["/link"] (without the quotes before and after link).

I also noticed on your first post that you said you had tried typing: ["imp"] and ["/imp"]

Did you mean ["imp"] and ["/imp"], or was the p a typo?  I am only asking because you were consitant in using "imp".  It should be ["img"] and ["/img"]

Yes, I'm using Microsoft IE.  I assume it's the latest.  I can't find a single reference to what version I'm using anywhere.  As far as online photo service... I use Snapfish.  Never had a problem before, and able to download photos on the other... ahem... forum.

Greg,

To find the version for Inernet Explorer:

When in Explorer, click on "Help", then click "About Internet Explorer".  You should then see four items:
  • Version
  • Cipher Strength
  • Product ID
  • Update Versions
The version number could be long, such as: 6.0.2800.1106

I've never used Snapfish, so I can't comment on linking pictures to the CTT forums from there.

At the top of IE, click the HELP command, then click ABOUT INTERNET EXPLORER.  You will then see the version of IE you are using.

Snapfish is a HP productBlack Eye [B)].....................Here's the story.  Two years ago, many of us tried to use HP's photo album to post photos.  Interestingly the poster could see the photos, but others on the forum only could see the the red X.    I was one of those people using the HP album and that is why I switched to Shutterfly after nothing worked.  No one could see my photos except me!  Three or four of us worked and worked trying to get the photos to post, but none of us ever were successful.

That being said, Snapfish still might work if the configurations are correct.

Thanks for the help.

I am a die hard Mac user and will probably never switch, I don't like catching a virus, plus it's what I'm used to. That said, if I want to post pic's on this forum I have to use Firefox and the tedious work of typing all that crap in before and after the url, very frustrating. I go to three other forums daily using Safari and when I post pic's it's cake.

This new software just makes my head hurt.

click "quote" on this post and see how the tags are set in - you need to use "img" as opposed to "imp"

So here I am on my iMac using Safari, and I just read Bergie's locked post above. Very interesting but...what is a "notepad"?

Thanks!

Jon,

Are you able to post pics w/Safari? I cannot and that's why I use Firefox when I'm here.

More than interesting, it is eye opening.  It really says that CTT is not setting up the forum for MAC users.   Like we didn't know already.

Now for my question based upon my naivete of a MAC system;  Do the other forums that you  participate in, be they hunting, fishing, NASCAR, etc. etc. cater to MAC users?

I think they "fixed" it.  I couldn't post even typing in raw code before.  Now it seems to be fine.  If you use IE, it's "easier".  BTW, I had trouble with this site using Firefox on XP as well.
