One of my projects is replacing the broken crank gear assembly on my Marx 333 circa 1953-question of my knowledgeble friends is the best way to pop the rivet connecting the crankshaft assembly to the boiler. I was thinking of using a Dremel cut-off tool -one would have to be very careful not to nick the sides-any other ideas or experiences? Next question is what is the procedure for attaching the rivet back on once the new crankshaft assembly comes. And if the new assembly comes with the little plastic grommet-washer thingy that goes under the screw attaching to the drive wheels. I was able to purchase a new assembly from http://www.trainpartsformarx.com/ which surprised me. My engine mujst not been the only one crashing to the floor at high rates of speed. Really its a wonderous thing that these engines took the abuse they have and keep on ticking. When you go to the site for those interested in Marx history there is link to the Marx museum. Cool.
Just a side if I allowed to ramble on, took the grandkids for a first train ride from Edmonds to Everett on the Cascades train. Girl 7 and boy 5.Fun ride for only a half hour ride, half the fun waiting for a half hour late train and waiting in what felt like -40 degress-felt REALLY nice to climb aboard the Amtrak-cost? 22 dollars-today I was looking at a 1950 teachers aid book for teaching rail transportation-inside was a poem about taking the train-remember your first shool sponsered train ride? Some of us were lucky enough to get a gratis school train ride-thye cost of the train ride in the poem? 34 cents. HIGHBALL!!
