American flyer Diesel horns
Posted by J. Daddy on Monday, November 20, 2006 8:32 PM

Good evening Gentlemen,

So it hums, sparks, and sputters, but never works... no not my ticker... this would be the non-working horn in my post-war flyer diesels... how do you get them to work?

Thanks,

j. daddy

I've been told that the problem almost always is the tubular capacitor near the speaker, which by now has  had 50-plus years to dry out.  Not being good with a soldering iron, I've never tried to replace one, but the first thing is to know the electrical 'value' of the original capacitor before hunting for a replacement.

Howdy. The site below lists a horn kit which includes capacitor, resistor and wiring instructions. It might be worth a try.
