Engines?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, November 19, 2006 7:57 PM

I am new to the hobby of model train collecting and I have a few inquiries that I have. I hope that I could get some help and quick responses as I want to get some stuff as soon as possible.

1. I was wondering what manufacturer offers the best quality(to detail) in their engines/locomotives with the GE Evolution ES44AC? I really am wanting to collect anything with the BNSF lofo on it, including the new one, their last one, and some of the Santa Fe Warbonnets.

2. Of the Santa Fe Warbonnet scheme, could someone tell me if there was any classification to the different colours used- red/silver and yellow/blue? I really like both of them very much and would like to get both in a nice engine- prefferably in an ES44AC, or as similar as possible?

3. Is there any manufacturer that offers their product with working lights, and possibly sound? (I am not so concerned with sound as I am sutre these models would be more $$)? Are there any specific manufacturer(s) that are the nicest for them (lights/sounds?).

4. What is DCC? I would like to get the mid to upper quality of product- track, controller, etc, so I don't have to upgrade later on, and save $$ in the long run (any particular brand/other that is the nicest?)

5. What engine/locomotive is nicer- the GE Evolution ES44AC, or the GM Electro-Motive SD70's? (what, if anything makes one more superior than the other? I like th elooks of the GE Evolution a bit better, especially the front end.

I am wanting to collect in HO scale, and want to hopefully start soon aquiring parts for my new hobby. It is quite hard for me to get to any place that has a hobby shop with model train products, and was wondering if there are any good places on the internet (and reputable dealers on ebay where product is a good buy/price?

Thanks to everyone in advance for any help you can provide. I would most appreciate any and all help that you can provide me?

Thanks, Roger
